So, to finish off this insane week, I decided to treat myself to a concert. It was the Awake & Alert CD release show last night, so I left work with so much left unfinished and headed to the show. It was about 9:45 when I got there, so I only got to see the last two bands play, but they are two of my favorites. I had really wanted to see the other bands, but oh well. The first was a band called Dear & the Headlights (get it?). I saw them play with A&A at the Women's Club, probably two years ago and they were really good back then. This time they were amazing. If you've never heard their stuff, look them up on myspace or purevolume or any other music website. They may even have a few songs on iTunes.
During the break I got to hang with the likes of Jason Pratt, Chad Rogers, Twitch, Taylor and Tony to name a few. They made me miss the old days of AZMR. We may do another show sometime in the next couple of months just for Grass is Greener and friends. Anywho, it was fun. the gang from Tugboat was there trying to get me to do shows again, because we were the first ones to get them involved here in the valley. Maybe some day...
Everyone was super excited when Awake & Alert came on stage. They had a whole performance set up, not just your typical "walk on stage, walk off stage" deal. When the curtains opened up, they had already started playing the intro to the first song and everyone went crazy. It was awesome. I loved the new tunes. I know you can listen to them on iTunes, so go do it now. I opted to get the album at the show, which sounds so good. They had Kim from Diamante singing back up vocals and Whit from several bands playing rhythm guitar and Korg, which added a little something extra. The finished off their set with Eternal Life, a duet written by Maya and Kim. I heard them play that at a show almost a year ago and have been waiting for the album to come out ever since. It was awesome. The crowd just would not stop until they finally came back out for an encore of Halos, one of their older songs. It was really stinkin' good. If any of you who read this like music, even the slightest bit, you need to check out the bands I mentioned. So good! The best part about the whole show, you ask? The stage that Chris, Reuben and I built was used as a drumstand. At least one thing I did still has an impact on the local music scene!
